STARKS AND WESTERGARD SWEEP SKAGIT SPEEDWAY

Alger, WA - Two of the three divisions on First Responders night at Skagit Speedway saw drivers pull off a clean sweep of the class. Trey Starks swept through the 360 Sprint division while Jeff Westergard set a new track record before sweeping the Skagit Aggregates IMCA Topless Modifieds. Brian Michelson kept Mike Guffey from sweeping the Hornets.

After setting fast time in the 360 division, Starks made his night by steamrolling from fourth to first in his heat race. Earning the pole for the main event, Starks would lead all 30 with Colton Heath keeping him somewhat close in traffic, but never in position to strike, Starks would win his fifth feature of the year in the division ahead of Colton Heath and Jesse Schlotfeldt. Cam Smith, Robbie Price and Tyler Thompson won the three other heat races.

The Skagit Aggregates IMCA Modifieds ran topless on the night under a special format with no points up for grabs. Jeff Westergard established a new track record in time trials before winning his heat race and leading all 25 main event laps as he won his third straight main at Skagit Speedway. Alan Grimbly beat Rick Smith to the line by .007 to run second in the feature. Smith was the second heat race winner.

Mike Guffey nearly had a clean sweep of his own in the Hornets, but Brian Michelson played spoiler and took the A Main win. Guffey started dead last after setting fast time and winning his heat race, and rolled all the way up to second place and side by side with Michelson in the race lead with two laps to go. Michelson showed off his veteran guile, finding just a little more speed in his car once Guffey showed himself with a few laps left and went on to capture the win. Bryce Kolar made his Skagit Speedway debut and finished third behind Michelson and Guffey. Jeff Woolsey was the second heat race winner.
