Domination Continues for Dominic Gorden

7/26/24

Alger, WA - The 5th round of the 2024 Northern Speedweek Tour “Tribute to Fred Brownfield” rolled into Skagit Speedway on Friday night for the first night of the Bob’s Burgers & Brew Summer Nationals. A familiar sight greeted fans who have been following the tour as Dominic Gorden drove from 18th place to take his fifth straight win Speedweek.

Jordan Milne controlled the early portion of the main event before Jason Solwold found his way around the outside on lap 18 to take the top spot. The lead was short lived though, as Gorden had carved through the field and rolled up right behind Jason to quickly grab second place. It was two laps later when Gorden shot to the bottom of turn one and completed a slide job off turn two to take the lead for good. He would lead the rest of the way for the $3,000 win and a guaranteed front row starting spot in the $15,000 to win Saturday night main event. Gordon also extended his point lead for the Northern Speedweek Tour in the process, holding a strong advantage for the $9,200 prize to be given out Saturday night. He also has a stranglehold on the Pass Master Award after his seventeen place advancement in the A Main, and was the Shark Racing Engines Hard Charger on the night.

Jesse Schlotfeldt ran second on the night and Solwold ended up third. Trey Starks set fast time. Heat race wins went to Duke Johnson, Bill Rude, Luke Didiuk, Dominic Sclezi and Willie Croft.

The K Pro Auto Hornet Nationals night one saw Steve Peters pull off a perfect night. After setting a new track record in time ins, Peters won his heat and took the lead in the main event with four laps left to complete the sweep of the evening and earn a front row starting spot for Saturday night. Raven Skaugrud and Wyatt Covert rounded out the podium. Colin Sims joined Peters as a heat race winner.
