HARLEY SUTT
Harley was the track’s first official manager; a part time position he held from 1954 until 1956.
ELBERT LEMLEY
Elbert was the first full-time manager of Skagit Speedway from 1956 until his death in 1966.
JIM RAPER
Jim was a four-time Skagit Speedway champion and the track manager from 1966 until his death in 1984. Founder of the nationally acclaimed “Super Dirt Cup” in 1972 that today bears his name in memorial. In 2005, Jim was inducted into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in Knoxville, Iowa.
DON LATTING
Don was the first ever Skagit Late Model Champion in 1966, repeating those titles in 1969 and 1970.
ART HILLESTEAD
Whether he was pulling stumps, running the rototiller or racing, Art Hillestead was a fixture at Skagit Speedway. Art began racing in 1946 and during his Skagit Speedway racing career raced every kind of car that ran at Skagit until his retirement from racing.
HARRY WEATHERBY
Harry was an original stockholder and one of the crew that blew up the old growth stump that was located where the blockhouse now sits.
ALIDA FRANCISCO
The wife of Jim Raper, Alida and Jim managed to grow Skagit Speedway into a first-class racing facility. Alida was the behind-the-scenes glue, doing the business end of things: hiring employees, paying racers and vendors while Jim raced and fiddled with the facilities.
FLOYD GRACE
Floyd was an original shareholder and was one of our original jalopy racers. Floyd was one of the original promoters that formed a jalopy racing series in the area and a winner of the Jalopy Racing Series.
DON JETER SR
As with many of the original stockholders, personal resources were used for the benefit of building Skagit Speedway. The wood that made up the original bleachers in the grandstands were from Jim and Alida Raper’s property and were processed through Don Jeter’s sawmill.
THELMA JETER
Like Alida Raper, Thelma worked tirelessly behind the scenes supporting her husband Don as well as the racetrack. She was an integral part of running the spectator portion of race nights.
HAROLD BEITLER
Racer (1953-1961), announcer, flagman, photographer (1962-1977), worked or volunteered at the track for 23 years. In 1957 Harold lost the track championship to Jim Raper on the last night of racing.
BUD MORGAN
Bud was a three-time Modified champion in 1960, 1964 and 1967. Bud was a huge crowd favorite, one of this track’s original racing heroes and spectacular whether he would win or crash.
CHARLES COFFLAND
Charlie was one of those early pioneers that invested his time and energy in building and operating Skagit Speedway from its inception. He worked in the tower helping scorers and race officials.
JOHNNY BEITLER
Johnny drove from 1953 to 1956. He served for several years on the SRA safety tech committee and on the SRA Board of Directors. Johnny was one of Skagit Speedway’s original test drivers and the original recipient of the Skagit Speedway Outstanding Service Award.
LLOYD ARMEY
Lloyd brought the first Sprint Car and wing to Skagit Speedway. He was a US Marine Corps boxing champion and was a flagman here at Skagit. He built many race cars that ran at Skagit Speedway.
BUTCH GILBERT
Butch raced for over 40 years, more than any other driver. In 1986, 1987 and 1989 he won the 410 Sprint Car Championships. Butch’s family has been actively involved in the track for years as well, scoring the races in the tower and helping around the track. He has been a hero to many race fans and racer alike for his undaunted determination to race at his home track.
DICK WILSKEY
Dick was a top driver for over 20 years. When he retired from the seat he built a championship team, sometimes fielding 3 cars. He was a great coach and mentored many drivers and crew members. Dick was handpicked by the late Jim Raper when Jim fell ill to manage the Dirt Cup for him.
DOYLE GUFFIE
Rallye Auto Sales / Doyle Guffie has sponsored Skagit Speedway since 1967. Sponsoring cars such as Steve Kinser, Lloyd Armey, Ed Blanton, Jeff Blanton, Mike Anderson, Nick Evans and Bob & Lori Scott. Doyle is a life-long Skagit County resident - Rallye Auto Sales has been in business for 45 years.
DICK SMITH
Dick started racing in 1973 in the Stock Car class, as the #66 then to the #Z28. When the Late Model class arrived, he then switched to that class. Over the years Dick won 20+ events, set track records and multiple dashes. Dick and his sons, Kevin, Rick and Terry raced together throughout the years. His biggest accomplishment was his Chassis builds, under Smith Chassis. Smith Chassis won a championship in 1994.
LOUIS ARMEY
We are honored to announce the induction of Lewis Armey to the Skagit Speedway Hall of Fame. You could see him every race night packing the track in the three-wheeler, then taking his seat on the blockhouse. He was an instrumental part of Skagit Speedway. In 1955 he helped to develop the track at its beginning, he was a longtime racer, official and part of the track crew until 2019. Lewis passed away Nov. 23, 2019.
MARC HUSON
A legendary driver, car owner and engine builder in the Northwest. Huson has been an integral part of the growth of Sprint Car racing at Skagit Speedway, the West Coast and beyond. "The Shark" was a driver that fans always had strong reactions for. He is a championship winning car owner and his engines have propelled countless drivers to win all over the world.
